I have returned from whence I came.

I think memorable is the best way to describe my weekend at avalanche. There were good things and bad things thats for sure. Heres a recap of the funny things. We are driving down the coquahalla when the van starts to sound a bit too much like a Suzuki. We pull over and the van is now toast. Yay for Elisha who saved the day having only caught up to us 10 minutes before coming from Vancouver. So Leesh saves the day! We get there and all is going well. We set up tents and head for the conference. Skip ahead a bit until Saturday night. The day has been pretty good so far and we stay up a bit late for a concert and then head back to camp. I’m wondering…did you ever played with dominoes as a kid? I did, but nothing even compares to coming back to the camp and finding that 2 of the 3 huge tents have played dominoes while you were away. I’ll admit, not everyone thought it was as funny as I did. Ok mostly they did. Skip ahead a bit more to Sunday Morning. At the church service they had this drumming contest. They asked who could drum so my group yelled me and I ran up to the front. I jumped on stage to meet my competition who happens to be a guy I know from Williams lake. Imagine that! Rival towns drumming it up. We played stomp on these barrels full of blue and red paint. It was awesome. My dress is now perma tye dyed. Well I lost, but it was a cheer contest so It could have happened to anyone. But I won a t-shirt. YAY.

We are working on a video for Youth and Church. I’m loving all the stuff we have so far. Its awesome. Ill try to put it up as soon as possible. Anyways. I’m zonked from a long weekend without much sleep so Im gonna go get a coffee and chill out.

Oh yeah and we got given a new hugemongous awesome HD LCD flat screen T.V. YAYAYAY!!! Just in time for the season finale of Heroes. Which rocked by the way.

African Haze

Well I wasn’t away, but kind of took a break from typing things and just spent so time reading. It’s been very restful. I’ve been trying to allow myself actual rest time. It’s not easy. I’m not very good at resting or sitting still. You’d think I was ADD or something. I’ve been making a point of not just working of stuff because there is time to, but setting aside time to accomplish things and to rest.

I’m currently enjoying an African Haze. I think I might have switched from London Fogs, well no I’m sure I haven’t switched I love London Fogs, but an African haze is really nice. Its good too because there is less caffeine. Gotta love Rooibos Tea. I go through phases where I only drink one thing. I need to go through another water phase!! I was thinking about how much coffee I drink the other day. I realized it would be much harder for me to quit drinking coffee if I was to get pregnant again than it was the last time. I enjoy my cuppah way to much.

Last night I went out with the girls to play games at Timmys. It was sooo fun and funny. But the funniest part happened before anyone even got there. I was sitting at a table by myself. I got there early to work on my sermon for youth tonight. With my ipod blasting in my ears and my pen tapping on the table I was deep in thought. Directly across from me sat a well dressed guy about my age reading a news paper. As I’m sort of staring out the window thinking I notice that this guy keeps looking at me. It was really weird. I was like “what is he looking at?”. I started to feel all awkward like I was being checked out. I shifted in my chair and moved my hand so my wedding ring was well visible because as much as being checked out is flattering, and I’ll admit my hair did look really cute, I am taken. It was then that I realized the guy wasn’t checking me out. He was really annoyed that my cell phone kept ringing and I wasn’t answering it. He was really just trying to tell me to turn the stupid thing off. Now I feel like sinking into a hole. Man I’m glad my thoughts aren’t played on a screen sticking out of my head or I’d feel awfully foolish.

Prickley Jeans

What a Mc-awesome day. It stayed gorgeous all day. When we got to Loon Lake I put Emily down for a nap and Roxy and I went exploring. We took the camera too so you’ll see some of those at the end of this post. We went across the creek and even found a couple of places we hadn’t been before. Mostly because of this rule about crossing through fences. I mean it was a good idea and all. A 10 year old would make a lovely snack for a bear. As usual I couldn’t help myself I ended up with my shoes off wading out to a log to stand on it. I didn’t get too too wet. Well at least I dried off before we got back. I think I still have prickle bushes in my jeans. Poppa made us wear these…uh…sweet…hats.

We fixed up the golf course. Put up the flags and de-cow-poop-ified everything. Then we had a round of golf. I’ve discovered that my long game is great. My short game…not so much. My dad got a hole in one. Roxy did too, but we weren’t playing that hole. haha. Overall it was a great day. We even made it home in time to see Morgan before he had to go to bed for work in the morning.
I had a bath with Emily tonight. I mostly stopped doing that except for the occasional shower. I don’t think she’s to big yet, but she usually has more fun playing by herself. Tonight we both needed a bath and I needed to keep her up longer before bed so into the bath we went. Em is so fascinated with my belly button ring. It’s funny. she pokes me and says “ohhhhh”. We had a really nice cuddle, Emily sang me a very nice song she made up and then I got her ready for bed.

She has been more cuddly lately. It’s nice. I’m ok with her not being cuddly cause I think I’m the one who really likes it most. Pastor Rick and Marci came over the other day and Emily crawled up to Pastor Rick and when he picked her up she just lay her head down on him and cuddled. It was so cute. She did that again with my Grampa today. I love it when she’s like that with other people.

Rainman Moment

Have you ever had a “Rainman Moment”? I frequently have them. They are a bit hard to detect. The litmus test for detecting a “Rainman Moment” is usually when Morgan pipes up “Hey Rainman, cut it out”. For those of you unfamiliar with a “Rainman Moment” I’ll let you in on the definition. It is anytime you find yourself doing something completely obsessive compulsive without realizing it. Some good examples that are quite common in my life: Straightening the crooked movies at the movie store, breaking your walking cadence to avoid stepping on cracks, counting the items in other peoples shopping carts in the express lane. All of these are examples of a “Rainman Moment”. So the next time you find yourself putting things in alphabetical order or moving over a step to make the line-up symmetrical just say to yourself “Hey Rainman, cut it out!”

Road Trip Tunes

I’m trying to get everything all packed for my trip. I’m taking a break from the hustle and bustle of packing. I’m probably going to have to leave a couple days early and drive a couple of Youth to Kamloops for a spring break discipleship school. Rather than drive to Kamloops and back on Sunday and then leave again for kamloops on Tuesday I think Ill just carry on through to Richmond on Sunday night. I’d be more inclined to come home on Sunday if the highways weren’t all closed. I’m pretty sure I have to take the Coquihalla anyways.

I’m burning a bunch of CD’s for the trip. Morgan can’t come with me anymore so it’ll be my first trip down by myself and with Emily too. I’m going to be all nice and leave my iPod for Morgan while he is at work. I’m trying to decide what I’d like to listen to. I have a few audio books I could take or maybe just make some playlists of good driving tunes. I wonder if I Google driving music if Ill find any suggestion for the best road trip music.

I officially hate doing Laundry. ok maybe not as much as vacuuming or taking out the garbage, but I hate it all the same. I don’t mind all the first part, but I really don’t like folding it. Plus I never catch it when it’s done so everything is wrinkly. Some one in my house take serious issue to there being wrinkles in “his” clothes. Not that I get in trouble or something, but he still wont wear stuff with wrinkles.

Haha. This really awkward guy just phones to see if Morgan would take a survey. I said “Morgan Hates surveys, but if it’s important I could take it”. (Morgan always thinks I’m crazy for talking to telemarketers).Lately I’ve been getting alot better at saying “No Thank you” and interrupting there schpeel. But this guy sounded so awkward I just didn’t want to hurt his poor(probably Emo) feelings. Turns out I cant take his dumb survey because I’m not 25. Stupid regulations. haha.

Well…Emily is waking up so time to get back to this whole packing/laundry/craziness experience.

Off you go…go get your rain stick.

Today I was so cute I got a free bottle of liqueur.I just asked if they sold this vanilla flavored stuff in bottles smaller than my head and the lady was like “um…No”. So Morgan piped in something like “but what if it tastes like draino”? So she found us a small bottle attached to another bottle and stuck it on Morgans bottle of wine. We were looking for different things to cook with like wine and well anything else too.

We bought a couple of spices today because I insist that the ones that came with the jars are old and nasty. I wonder how long spices really last. I’m not sure, but I couldn’t handle it today so we had to get some new ones. We didn’t replace them all just the main ones we use all the time like cayenne, cumin and paprika. We are still on our Mexican food kick. Tonight is just tacos, but we’ve started making our own taco seasoning and fresh salsa. We were all excited to make corn tortillas from scratch, but Safeway didn’t have mesa corn flour. So no homemade tacos for us. I make good flour tortillas, but Id like to learn to make corn ones too.

We went to the Amnesty concert at PSO today. It was really good. My dad is the Guitar teacher at the school so he sang a song and his class played a couple too. My “extra” Dad, Mark, played a few songs too. They sang Pretty Vegas by J.D. Fortune and it rocked. I had a really hard time not dying laughing because there was this kid who was using his ability to play guitar to educate his school in…well I’m not really sure, but his taste in music leaves something to be desired. It was pretty bad alright. It reminded me of this one time in Bella Coola when this lady got up to sing and she couldn’t really play guitar and she had her mom stand behind her with a rain stick going “ooohhh aaahhhh oohh eeee”. It was so awful, but My family was sitting in the front row so we couldn’t laugh which ultimately meant we couldn’t look at each other at all.

Last night at Timmy’s Roxy *very loudly* says so everyone can hear “Happy 30th Birthday Courtenay”. These people at the other table are all like “oh thats nice its her 30th birthday”, but its not! I’m only 24 today. So there. I had a sweet Birthday, minus being sick and Emily being a total butt head. We are both still sick and it sucks. Speaking of sucks…
During My oh-so-great birthday dinner at my parents, I was taking a sip of my float while my mom was taking a picture, but it took her forever to take the picture and so as smart as I am I replied with this extremely witty line ” I cant suck forever”. That was followed with immediate looks of shock and absolutely no need for a joke having done all I needed to burn myself.
Today I braved my fear of the word perm and got one. All I said to the lady was “Don’t make me look like a poodle”. I spent the next 3 and a half hours being permed and “voila”. I’m a poodle. Ok its not really that bad. I actually like it. Its going to take some getting used to, but I really do like it. All it took was a clip and I was looking a bit more like me again.
I braved another fear and signed up for Curves today. I start tomorrow at 8 am. I think I am excited. I wasn’t so sure, but today I tried some of their machines and thought they were ok. I did an initial weigh in and am so stoked. Only 17 lbs until I get a big huge shopping spree. I’m 177lbs today!!
My Dad got me a special treat for my birthday. A round of IRN-BRU”s for everyone. This little shop in town sells them. That made for an extra special birthday. Thanks Dad
