No that’s not the name of someone. Otherwise his brothers name would be Phys Ed. Lame I know. I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on Christian Education, but I’m going to focus on Home learning and Christian education rather than Christian School.
Firstly, I think it is important. The Bible says we should “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Eph 6:4). I think its very important to be the biggest influence in your child’s life. Notice that I said biggest. I certainly don’t want to be the only influence in their lives. I really want my kiddos to have great influences in their lives from other adults and their peers.
Having said that, I don’t want my kids to only know Christian kids, Only study “Christianese” and be surrounded in this bubble that keeps them isolated from the real world. I also don’t want them to think that the creator of the universe is boring or that the Jesus who saved them is cheesy. Christians can be cheesy, but Jesus isn’t. He’s passionate and creative and loving and Holy.
There are many curriculums out there for home learning that focus soo much on bible study in christianese that I think they would be missing so much of the knowledge of everything else. Do I want my kids to study the origin of man from a creation standpoint? Absolutely! But I do want my kids to know about and understand the big bang theory and evolution because that is what they will come up against in post secondary education and general world views. I want them to know what they believe and why they believe it.
So I really do believe in Christian Education, but I really don’t think it needs to be cheesy or boring. I’ll write more about the curriculum choices we’ve made and how that affects Emily’s bible learning soon.

Great Courtenay!
